Over an estimated 30 million Indian followers of Lord Jesus Christ will celebrate 3 July 2021 as ‘Indian Christian Day’ or ‘Yeshu Bhakti Divas’.

This day is historically observed as St. Thomas Day. Christians traditionally believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was brought to India in 52 AD, by Apostle St. Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples, who was then martyred near Chennai in 72 AD.

The celebration on 3 July, 2021 will also launch the ‘Decade of Celebration’ (2021- 2030), to honour the 2000th anniversary of the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ whose followers have helped in the development of India and the world.

Their contribution to nation building, including the development of vernacular languages, literature, printing, publishing, education, journalism, health care, health education, women empowerment and other socio-economic enhancement, will be honoured.

The celebration will include a number of social help projects among the marginalized, the underprivileged and the Covidaffected families.

Seminars and discussions on contemporary economic and social issues will be organized, and positive steps will be taken to create a peaceful and prosperous nation.

A number of cultural programmes also will be staged with special stress on Indian music and cultural dances. Christians of Indian origin will celebrate the event not only in India but also among the Indian diaspora globally.
